May or may not be off on a trip to Bangkok, Sydney, Melbourne and Hong Kong tomorrow. I'd love to hear your suggestions about places to vintage shop/ photograph/ feel bad about not having time to visit.
So, so beautiful. I have to say, you're father has excellent taste, that rode is absolutely mesmerising. You're looks always inspire me to push my own style boundaries, although I am ashamed to admit that I am yet to attempt the maxidress. Some day I will be brave enough. X
Awesome!! I live in Hong Kong and you're gonna love it here. There aren't many vintage shops in Hong Kong it's mostly high street and designer clothing. Good places to do photography would be Mong Kok, it's a very local place in Hong Kong. Also go to Central/LKF/SoHo/Hollywood Street (these places are all in the same area) for some typical HK city scenery.
There is actually a small cute vintage/thrift shop in Hong Kong, I don't remember the address exactly but it is near a street called Graham Street. Do check that out!
Hope to run into you while you're here! Enjoy you travels xo
Melbourne is the shopping capital if you come down to Australia! but if you're visiting Sydney, you should check out Oxford St, as well as Paddington, Glebe, and Newton!
hey there! i live in Bangkok and if you know where to go, you can find some amazing things here! the trick is GO WHERE NOBODY ELSE GOES! yes, places like Paragon and Emporium (shopping malls) are amazing, but if you want something truely unique... its best to go to the ground floor of Central Changwatana... i went there today and bought 4 pairs of heels that were the same design except different colours (grey, moss, blue and tan) and they were only 400 baht each (about 10 dollars) and they are truely amazing - something that can be sold for hundreds of dollars in proper shops. like i said - its really where you decide to look. there are some amazing clothes there that are truely unique. MBK is also a very nice place to go, but it doesnt have the best quality clothes. street shopping is also amazing here - but dont let the sellers rip you off! stuff here is very cheap!
You look wonderful as always! :) I read your blog all the time but never find the time to comment. *a bit shy*
Vintage shopping is great in Bangkok! You can find some amazing deadstock vintage in Jatujak market (only open on the weekends though). It's an incredibly huge market, I guarantee you won't be able to visit the whole of it in just two days! All the stalls are divided into sections and you can find everything from pets to plants to clothing... You can find almost everything there. I recommend Section 1 and 2 (which feature independent clothing and interior designers), and the "used clothing section" (which is essentially lots of deadstock vintage). Be wary of trying on closed shoes though, shake them out if you plan on trying them on because I've seen girls have nasty surprises when putting their feet in and screaming when a cockroach starts scrambling out!
Another good market is Suan Lum Night Bazaar. Last I heard it was shut for maintenance, but check with your hotel I think they may be up and running again?
Also, Lane Crawford in HK is a nice department store to visit, I also recommend going to Yuen Po Bird Garden, the Fish Market and the Flower market for photo ops. Vintage is very hard to find in HK, but one good place for rare designer vintage glasses/sunglasses and clothes is Select 18 vintage: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=735300393#!/group.php?gid=134159808927&v=wall
There's also a cheapy place for Japanese deadstock vintage both menswear and womenswear in Central in HK... but I'm afraid I forgot the name... :S If you go to Susie Bubble's blog and do a quick google search she tells you how to get there, with the name of another vintage seller.
A small tip while visiting Asian markets... if you go really early when they first open, you will have more buyer power when it comes to bargaining. :) Once it comes to about mid-afternoon or so they will be a little less lenient on bending their prices...
Have fun on your trip! So sorry for the long post.
I love these boots! urbandoutfitters is one of my favourite shops :) unfortunately there is no store here in this german city where I´m living in! amazing shot!
Have fun! Sounds like an amazing trip and love that robe of yours! In Melbourne, there are some cute little boutiques around Flinder's Lane in the city and a tiny little crepe place around there too on Degraves!
In Hong Kong there's a walk we call the childhood walk. It's beautiful and craggy. Rocks with views to the sea. Go to the little town in Shek O, head through the town to the rocks (one really big one) at the far end. It's just your style. Enjoy!
In Melbourne, there is a really big vintage store off Swanston street, called Retrostar. I also love Chapel street, Brunswick st (Fitzroy) and little collins st. Have fun!
The dress is FAB. What is the top of it like? On http://www.helenglory.com/2010/12/here-come-clowns.html we recently did a circus inspired shoot a bit more colourful than clothes we usually go for.
retrostar in melbourne is worth tracking down (you have to go into an arcade and up some stairs to find it, but someone should be able to direct you), and smith st and brunswick streets for little vintage boutiques. go to rooftop bar in curtain house if you have a chance! it's swell.
Amazing photo! Melbourne is fantastic for vintage shopping! I don't live there so I don't know too well but it is definitely the place to do it (although it can be a bit overpriced). Have fun!
heya, definately go to camberwelll markets in melbourne, sundays only, 7am to midday. get there early!, also in melbourne check out smith street which runs parrallel to brunswick st, smith street is alot less "trendy"- its more grungy & has some great little "less pose-y" cafe's. Also sydney rd in melb- its a jewel in tha rough! huge 'savers' store there!also northcote is great too, lots of fab little shops! the tram that runs along smith st goes to northcote- i dont live in melb anymore so am guessing it should only take bout 20min on the tram to get there-about same with sydney rd, most other places are in walking distance from the city! as for sydney im assuming that ur going to get recommened to go to paddington, darlinghurst,& surry hills which are all next to each other & a nice stroll from the city, but try to get to the inner west- you can get a train from central station, newtown, enmore, erskinville, summer hill-they are "marching to the beat of a different drum" highly recommended! travel safe! jodi.x
