No Parking, Lewis

I don’t have much to say about this ensemble, it’s not a favourite and not particularly innovative, but it is demonstrative of wearing items in a fashion slightly changed from the way in which they were intended to be worn. Far too cumbersome a sentence to be repeated as often as I practice this, I feel a new word coming on – altered intention - altention?
I’ve mentioned my swivelling tendencies before, with low neck items - the top is a cardigan worn backwards. An eternally favourite modus operandi, the cardigan not only sits better, but it feeds my growing fetish for back detailing. The skirt saw some hem hacking and elastic threading for added puffiness. It is unashamedly short, but I take solace in the fact that the elastic grips my legs to ensure maximum modesty for a skirt of such unseemly length. The shoes are rather comical Prada banana heel knock offs, designed to kill the balls of my poor, unsuspecting feet.

Their Greek tragedy

I’ve noticed that with regards to colour, I’m becoming boring, and I can’t decide whether or not I want to pursue this rut. Quandary aside, monochromacity forces one (or me) to focus on or experiment more with shapes, silhouette, proportions and/ or texture. In this case, texture takes centre stage as chunky speckled knit, leather effect, faux snakeskin and pleats become friends. Leathery/ shiny looking garments paired with knitwear or fluffy pieces has been a lasting fixation of mine and ONCE AGAIN find myself over buying to cater for my predilection, tsk. Someone stop me? (Please).

On a side note, these glasses cost me 50p – with their ORANGE-ity, transparent, graduated lenses and hint-of-cat shape, I love them more than all of my other sunnies (but don’t let on to the others).

Gracious Bacchus, accept this empty jar!

It seems odd to be posting these on such a sunny day. Confession/excuse: they are in fact a couple of days old when it was raining and miserable and definitely arctic-wear worthy. Definitely.

This is brief because the long term economic benefits of precast concrete sandwich panels are telling me they’re more important. LIES!

With a last minute desire to incorporate glamour into a fundamentally slouchy, lazy, everyday look, the somewhat ad hoc ensemble was born. As always, the unexpected amalgamation of time periods pleases me no end.

This outfit was not so much inspired by, as much as a tribute to Lara from Dr. Zhivago. Bringing a soupçon of the 60s to the Russian Revolution, the film sees impeccable costume design, from the peasants’ pinafores to the epitome of layering – coats upon coats as worn by Yuri himself. Julie Christie as Lara is a flurry of pill box hats, beautifully cut coats, collars, cuffed shirts, fur, wistful gazes and head scarves and I am her slave. All hail Phyllis Dalton – the homage paid by YSL in his 1976 Russian collection was deserved.

With the summer days dawning, I find myself ever enticed by my winter wardrobe. I’m deciding it’s ok to wear faux fur collars, winter hats, boots and chunky scarves with my diaphanous florals and gauzy dresses.
